Why Creative Therapy?

As an alternative to talk based therapies, qualified creative arts therapists (AThR) are trained in creative methods as well as psychotherapeutic approaches.
Creative arts therapies often access more instinctual parts of the brain and help in the expression of emotions, body response and regulation. Though there are strategies to work cognitively and use reflective practice, a major part of the therapeutic approach comes from facilitating the process of creative expression as opposed to the output.

What we offer

Art Therapy

Accordian Icon
Art Therapy is a type of psychotherapy that uses art making processes to aid non-art related goals such as improved mental health, emotional regulation, reduced chronic pain or exploration of unconscious thought.
It has been widely researched and used in both clinical and non clinical environments. As a practice, it focuses on how different materials and mediums interact and integrate the brain, body, mind and soul to assist and facilitate healing.

Play Therapy

Accordian Icon
Play Therapy is a theoretically-based, age-appropriate approach to child therapy that builds on the normal communication style of children. Therapists strategically use play therapy to help children express what is concerning them when they do not have the verbal language to express their thoughts & feelings.
Toys are like the child's words and play is the child's language. Our Play Therapy approach is inspired by Child-Centred Play Therapy (CCPT), Synergetic Play Therapy (SPT) and Gestalt Play Therapy. Play therapy is effective for nervous system regulation, attachment and interpersonal connection.

Movement Therapy

Movement can be functional, communicative, developmental, and expressive. Dance/movement based therapies acknowledge that non-verbal therapeutic processes of movement start in utero and continue through the lifespan.
A somatic approach to therapy can help with sensory integration, body awareness (interoception, proprioception and vestibular), regulation, breathing and body strengthening. This can be facilitated through dance, stretching and aerial yoga.
